My Love for Elopements
2020… what can I say about you? You’ve kind of just been a dumpster fire full of dog poo (I envision the one at Westcrest Park in West Seattle). One of the few positives you’ve given me has been elopements. With so many big weddings being pushed to 2021 (or beyond) I have been able to take a part in so many micro-weddings or elopements or minimonies or whatever you want to call them. For that I am thankful.
Weddings are great and I love celebrating with my clients and their families in big wedding days, but there’s something so special about an elopement that it is hard to put into words. Anthony and I eloped at the Seattle Courthouse in 2016 (10 days before we had a big wedding). I had wanted the small elopement all along, but he wanted the wedding and I’m game for a party! Due to some unforeseen insurance stuff (ahhh… legal rules), we had to be married by the 15th of the month and our wedding was… you guessed it… the 16th! So off to the courthouse we went.
Our AMAZING wedding photographer, Shelby Schmidt, from Something Minted was able to come and capture our courthouse day for us and it was perfect. We each had a friend and their significant other attend, got a tiny, sprinkle covered cake from my favorite shop, and we finished the day cracking crab legs in bibs at The Crab Pot.
I think this is where my love of elopements comes from.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED our big wedding. Our friends and family from around the country joined us to celebrate at (maybe I’m biased, but the coolest wedding location ever) Westland Distillery. Even with the wonderful memories of that day, our elopement is still my favorite.
It was low-key. I wore a dress I found online, my husband’s shoes had Zelda on them, my flowers were from Pike Place Market, and it was perfect!
So when it comes to celebrating with my clients, I love the small, intimate ceremonies. Are you looking to elope? Reach out! I have some great location ideas to help you with and I can put you in contact with some planners, florists, and bakers. I’m not any of these things… you definitely don’t want my help in those areas, but I can TOTALLY give you recommendations from a vendor list!
COVID doesn’t have to be the end of your wedding plans. Maybe you still have the big wedding next year or maybe this is all you need. Whatever your plans, I’m here to help!
